Hand-made products, brand and package design for communities the central region of Thailand

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the way of life of disable people as well as their skills, products, and material in their communities 2) to design and development products, brand, and packaging for disable people as well as train them to create new products with their own ideas.

The methodology of this research was Research and Development, Innovation, Design (R&DID). The sample groups were 400 disable people from Sumouprakan, Pracheenburi, Nontaburi, and Angthong provinces. This research procedure consists of 4 phrases. First, collect data of disable people and their products, consumer needs, and products of competitors as well as material in their communities by survey and interview. Second, design and develop new products, brand, and packaging for each sample groups. Third, try out the new products with target markets. Last, train the disable people to create new products and packages for their own markets under the same brand.

The results of this research were as follows:

1) Disable people have new know-how and trade secrete from this research to create new products for each of their markets.

2) The new products give disable people more opportunities to compete in the markets because they have been protected by several of Thai Intellect Property laws.

3) The brand name, which has been chosen and can be registered, is Hat-Suwan.

4) The new packages give a lot of impact to the positioning of brand and products.
